The adverse effects of incorrect use of the protective gas in a laser welding machine

The selection of protective gas directly affects the quality, efficiency and cost of laser welding production. However, due to the diversity of welding materials, the selection of welding gas in actual welding processes is also quite complex. It requires comprehensive consideration of welding materials, welding methods, welding positions, as well as the required welding effects. Only through welding tests can a more suitable welding gas be selected to achieve better welding results.

In laser welding, the shielding gas can affect the formation of the weld seam, the quality of the weld, the weld penetration depth and weld width, etc. In most cases, blowing in the shielding gas will have a beneficial effect on the weld, but if used improperly, it may also bring adverse effects.

As long as the types of gas, the gas flow rate, and the blowing method are chosen correctly, an ideal effect can be achieved. However, incorrect usage of the shielding gas can also have adverse effects on the welding process. The adverse effects of incorrect use of shielding gas on laser welding

Incorrect introduction of the shielding gas may result in poor weld quality:

(2) Choosing the wrong type of gas may result in cracks in the weld, and may also lead to a decrease in the mechanical properties of the weld.

(3) Choosing the wrong gas flow rate for blowing in may lead to more severe oxidation of the weld seam (whether the flow rate is too high or too low), and it may also cause the molten metal of the weld pool to be severely disturbed by external forces, resulting in weld collapse or uneven formation;

(4) Choosing an incorrect method for gas injection can result in the weld not achieving the protective effect, or even having no protective effect at all, or having a negative impact on the weld formation.

(5) The introduction of shielding gas will have a certain impact on the weld penetration depth. Especially in thin plate welding, it will reduce the weld penetration depth.
